IGNOU Bachelor of Arts (General) also known as BAG is of three years at Indira Gandhi National Open University. Details of B.A.G IGNOU Programme
Before we talk about the course structure of BAG Course, you should be aware of the eligibility criteria along with duration and fee structure for the BA programme. So here are the details of B.A. IGNOU Programme –
- Eligibility: For B.A. – 10+2 or its equivalent or BPP from IGNOU
- The medium of Instruction: English & Hindi
- Duration: Minimum 3 years and Maximum 6 years; offered in both January & July cycle of admissions.
- Fee Structure: IGNOU BAG Fees is Rs. 7,200/- for full programme to be paid year wise @Rs. 2,400/- per year.

IGNOU BAG Credit System
The IGNOU Bachelor of Arts (General) BAG programme can be completed by earning the required number of credits under each category in a minimum period of three years (six semesters) or in the maximum period of six years.
Required number of credits under each category:
- 72 credits of Core Courses,
- 24 credits of Discipline Specific Electives,
- 8 credits of Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses,
- 16 credits of Skill Enhancement courses, and
- 12 credits of Generic Electives.
IGNOU BAG Credit System
IGNOU BAG Course Structure in Detail
The IGNOU BAG Course structure follows the Choice Based Credit System launched by the University of Higher Authorities in 2019. The BAG is a 132 credit degree comprise of two different listings of courses.
- Twelve Core courses, four from each of the two disciplines and four language core courses
- Two Discipline-specific electives from each of the two disciplines.
- Two Ability Enhancement compulsory courses
- Four Skill Enhancement courses
- Two Generic electives
This course varies in different semesters out of six semesters. 22 credits are added for completing each semester. The BAG degree is offered in two languages English, and Hindi student has to select which language will suitable for him while applying for admission in the Degree.

Discipline Specific Elective Courses
Discipline Specific Elective Courses are only on offer in the fifth and sixth semesters of the programme. They carry 24 credits (2+2 courses * 6 credits).
Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses
IGNOU’s BAG Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses are of four credits each. As the name suggests, the Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECCs) are compulsory for all learners. There are two AECCs on offer, one each in the first and second semesters.
