The Gangtok regional centre of IGNOU is used for coordinating University operations in Sikkim. The Study Centre-2401 at Sikkim Govt. College Tadong(now renamed as Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College) has been operational since 1989, initially under IGNOU Kolkata Regional Center and later under IGNOU Guwahati Regional Center. But, the IGNOU Regional Centre at Gangtok was established in December 2000.
The Learner Support Centres(LSC) in each district of the state have been activated. The LSC was established to provide access to higher education across the state.
List of LSC of IGNOU Gangtok Regional Center:- There are 8 LSCs in Sikkim comprising of 4 Regular Study Centres, 3 Special Study Centres & 1 Programme Study Centre.
Functions of Gangtok Regional Centre of IGNOU –
1. Offer all of the IGNOU programs through a network of eight study centres or Learners Study Centers.
2. Provide efficient student support for the students of Sikkim.
3. provide an effective connection between institution, government and the learning students of the region where the main IGNOU centre at Delhi is not able to reach to the problems of regional students.
4. The Gangtok Regional Centre of IGNOU promotes the operations and system in the general among the students.
To assist the students of different cities and far of regions, there is a network of 8 LSCs in Sikkim comprising of 4 Regular Study Centres, 3 Special Study Centres & 1 Programme Study Centre were established in relation to the Gangtok regional centre in different institutions of Sikkim.
