One should notice that the programs that IGNOU offers are in the components of the UGC that is the that follows the minimum standard and procedure to award a PhD or m Phil degree. Also, those degrees are offered on both part-time and full-time basis. Students will have to attend the classes if there is any course work allotted to them. Students for both part time and full time will have to attend these classes.
Also, this course work that is involved in both programs will be conducted on the IGNOU campus which is in New Delhi. Do take care that IGNOU does not offer any hostel facility for the students you will have to arrange your own accommodation if you come outside Delhi.
Eligibility Criteria for IGNOU PhD Programs
For MPhil. The student should have a University masters degree in that is recognised by UGC in a relevant discipline. The minimum score is 55% for general and 50% for other categories the master’s program. The rules are different for the differently-abled candidates and other various categories in which can be found on the UGC website as they keep changing.
Specific programs of different disciplines may have different eligibility criteria which can be checked on the information brochure and appendix 2.
For PhD. for this, the primary criteria that the master’s degree from recognised UGC University in a relevant discipline is required and 50% for other reserved categories.
It is simple that if you have NET you don’t need to give an entrance exam of PHD but if you don’t have the NET you have to appear in the exams conducted by different universities in there PhD programs.
The people who are passed NET exam are exempted from the entrance test UPPSC direct entry in the interviews at most of the Universities. Information on the entrance test was given in the next section.

Selection Procedure for IGNOU PhD Course
First stage: Entrance Test
It is a qualifying test that is conducted by the university or nearly bases around March month. It is a national level test which has its examination centres across the country. The students who need to appear for this test day list is available on the IGNOU website after the registrations are closed.
Students if you need to appear for the entrance make sure that you have hall tickets which will be required to perform in the entrance test.
If you acquire at least 50% marks for the general category and 45% marks in case of other reserved categories only then you will be shortlisted for the interview. The number of shortlisted students is limited 25 times the available number seats in that yearly program.
Make sure that you bring along a valid ID proof that includes an Aadhar card or voter ID on driving licence for the passport or an ID card that issued by any of the government agencies which have your food photograph along with the hall ticket on the exam date.
Stage 2: Interview and presentation
Once you are shortlisted in the entrance test, the IGNOU will call you for interview and presentation of the synopsis before the doctor the search committee of any specific program that you have applied to.
Students who are exempted from the entrance test will also have to appear before the doctor the search committee for the interview or presentation of the synopsis.
The offer letter will be issued only those students who were elected by the committee.

- Appendix 2 has information about each discipline in which vacancy of seats or specific eligibility criteria is mentioned along with the contact and the remarks for each subject.
- Appendix III has information about the details of each program that is available by the IGNOU. It is basically the entrance test syllabus for the admission to MPhil/PhD programs.
